The teacher stands up, and says, “Whoever in here thinks they are stupid, please stand up.”
The students all looked at each other, and finally, one boy stood up.
“Do you think you’re stupid?” asked the teacher.
“No, said the little boy, “but I didn’t want you standing there alone.”
for your peace of mind
This Sunday is children’s Mass and we want everyone to be joyful and not worry about viruses:
Therefore:
No communion cups will be offered until Easter.
No holding hands during the Our Father.
No shaking hands during sign of peace. We will immediately sing the Lamb of God.
The ministers of Communion will use hand sanitizer before giving out Holy Communion (available on the table behind the lectern).
Our Lady of Mercy has also been cleaned with bleach detergent (it always has been!)
Mass intention for Ellen Thompson on the first anniversary of her death, remembered by her son Donal.
We also pray for Marcel who lost his father Adolphis in Nigeria recently.
Stuck in an Elevator
The elevator in our building malfunctioned one day, leaving several of us stranded. Seeing a sign that listed two emergency phone numbers, I dialed the first and explained our situation.
After what seemed to be a very long silence, the voice on the other end said, “I don’t know what you expect me to do for you. I’m a psychologist.”
“A psychologist?” I replied. “Your phone is listed here as an emergency number. Can’t you help us?”
“Well,” he finally responded in a measured tone. “How do you feel about being stuck in an elevator?”

The Dreaded Coronavirus
There is a lot of fear from the unknown out there. Our Lady of Mercy did not take any special precautions last Sunday because the risk of getting the Virus was practically non-existent.
As this week progresses, we will see how much the disease is spreading, and if it is propagating quickly we will take measures for the following Sundays.
If you are sick with any cold or flu, do NOT come to church. That is a golden rule.
If we need to, we will temporarily stop the shaking of hands at the sign of peace and remove the cup.
You always have your choice NOT to take from the cup.
It is recommended that you receive Holy Communion in the hand.
You can always smile and nod your head at the sign of peace.
We probably will not hold hands at the Our Father for a while.
If things worsen, we will make announcements at Mass. For now, please know that you will never be put at risk at OLM.
Lent has begun

A tourist stopped a local in a village he was visiting and asked, “What is the quickest way to the lake?”
The local thought for a while. “Are you walking or driving?” he asked the tourist.
“I’m driving.”
“That’s the quickest way.”

She then passed the phone to her brother and sister as was the custom whenever Daddy called from work.
When it was finally the wife’s turn to talk she took the receiver and said, “Hi, honey.”
“Thank goodness, lady,” the voice on the other end replied. “I just called to tell you that the wallpaper you ordered is here!”

Johnny’s Prayer
Tonight’s subject is prayer. Some people are very proud of the fact that they don’t pray, others are proud of the fact that they do pray. I heard of one family who had some visitors coming to lunch and they wanted to show-off to their visitors how well they had bought up their children and how well their children prayed.
So when it came to lunch they said to their son, Johnny, “Johnny, why don’t you pray?” Johnny looked rather embarrassed and he said, “I can’t.” So, the mother just whispered to him, “Johnny, just say what Daddy said at breakfast.”
So he shut his eyes and said, “Oh God [pause] why do we have to have these awful people over for lunch today?”
